So, what is RPET anyway?!
RPET is recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate), or put simply, recycled plastic. By shredding & melting items made from PET such as post-consumer plastic bottles, they are able to be transformed into recycled polyester.
Known for it’s durability, flexibility, abrasion resistance and easy to care for properties, virgin polyester is a man-made synthetic fibre produced from the chemical reaction between petroleum, air and water.
Recycled polyester, unlike virgin polyester, uses existing PET as the raw material. Waste such as plastic bottles and fishing nets are collected, which are then shipped to a processing facility to be melted down into pellets before it’s re-spun and given a second life as recycled polyester fibre.
There is a minimum of 14 recycled plastic bottles used for every square metre of Stratus Outdoors Fabric.
Why use RPET? The benefits to you and the environment.
At Stratus, we don’t turn a blind eye to waste, we look at it as a resource.
Maintaining the same properties as virgin polyester, (quality, durability, flexibility, & quick drying) recycled polyester is just as good, yet is more sustainable and environmentally friendly as it takes far less resources to manufacture. So the question really should be “Why wouldn’t we produce this way?!”
Here are the ways that using this strong & durable recycled material is easier on the environment and perfect for the Stratus Outdoors range;
Keeping fossil fuels in the ground - Natural resources are spared and we save one litre of petroleum per kilo of recycled material used.
Reducing landfill and ocean pollution - Using post-consumer plastic bottles diverts waste from landfill and our oceans.
Reducing the carbon footprint - Throughout it’s entire production process, RPET consumes between 35-50% less energy compared with virgin polyester, and generates 70-79% less CO2 emissions.

PACKAGING
100% recycled from production to postage.
All our packaging is made from 100% recycled cardboard that is FSC Certified, and we ask that after you open your products you REPURPOSE, RECYCLE or COMPOST the cardboard.
There is absolutely no place for single use plastics in our business. We have worked with our manufacturers to create a model of production which has ensured no single use plastics are used in the supply of Stratus Outdoors products. We have custom designed specific pallet boxes made from recycled cardboard for our products to be packed, loaded and shipped to our warehouse.
